New PC

Recommended Posts

Hello. I started looking into buying new PC and I don't know what I'm doing. So I would appreciate if someone could help me choose what to buy. I'm not in a hurry or anything so I can wait for stuff to be available.

I would prefer to not go over 2300€. From my old PC I probably can only keep my SSD. I was thinking about going with 3080 for the graphic card and meaby ryzen 9 5900x but I'm not sure how good amd stuff is. I have 4x4 2400hz RAM which is proabably too weak for what i'm trying to buy.

My SSD:

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB M.2 2280 PCI-E x4 Gen3 NVMe (MZ-V7S500BW)

Samsung 860 EVO 250GB

I'm also looking to buy good 1440p 144+Hz monitor if someone have good recommendation.

I'm probably gonna buy this from here: https://www.morele.net/

I think that will be the best monitor for that price thanks.

I did some poor research and picked some parts that seem like would work together but probably won't.

Asus TUF GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming 10GB GDDR6X (TUF-RTX3080-10G-GAMING) - no clue about the difference other than apperance between all of them tbh

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 3.7GHz, 64 MB, BOX (100-100000061WOF) - intel seems worse atm?

MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS - no idea what to pick for motherboard so I just took bestsellling one that looks right

I kinda have no clue what RAM I need. I have read that 3600Hz is good for this CPU so I picked this two that I don't really know difference between:

G.Skill Ripjaws V, DDR4, 32 GB, 3600MHz, CL16 (F4-3600C16D-32GVKC) v Pamięć G.Skill Trident Z Neo, DDR4, 32 GB, 3600MHz, CL16 (F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC) - never heard about that company but its best selling one with good opinions so idk

SilentiumPC Supremo FM2 Gold 750W (SPC169) - idk how much power I need

I have no idea what case and cooling I need for all of this.

That looks great Nexi - I have never heard of that power supply, but all the rest looks great to me - I would check the exact serial for the RAM and check the QVL list for that specific motherboard to make sure they work well together.

That will be a beastly PC, that is for sure!

For gaming - today - The 5600x might be a better buy, but I am gonna get the 5900x as well, so who am I to advice in the saving money department 😛

Yeah just preorder teh 5900x. It will last you the next 8 years easily.

The AMD will benefit ALOT from having fast memory, 3600 is the minimum, if you can get faster RAM try to do so.

3080 is a beast.

You can get faster ram at same frequency dropping the CL number, and AMD chips are supposed to really benefit from the lower timings. For example, 3600 CL15 could beat 4000 CL17. There is a formula to work that out somehow, but lower latency is better for the RYZEN architecture

850w better option, you want the headroom and some 3080 run over 400w.

3600mhz at cl16 is pretty much the sweet spot though when it comes to price/performance to be honest.

The RAM has to run in a 1:1 ratio with the infinity fabric for maximum performance, and the default speed of the infinity fabric is 1800mhz (3600mhz memory is dual blabla, so it's actually 1800mhz, so perfect fit).

Most Ryzen 5xxx can, on a solid motherboard, run the infinity fabric at 1900mhz, but that means a hassle overclocking, and you'd need QVL memory that can run at 3800mhz for sure, which means dipping a lot deeper into the wallet for ~5% performance increase, if even that.

AMD has claimed new BIOS will help overclocking the infinity fabric to 2000mhz, but that is not yet tested or proven. Almost no chips can run at 2k at the moment.

Running, for example 3800mhz memory, while not overclocking the infinity fabric speed, is actually significantly slower, than running 3600mhz memory at 1:1 ratio. It's back to the old days of FSB overclocking hehe.

So, to conclude, 3600mhz is what you want. CL16 is good for that speed, anything faster than that will start costing you an arm and a leg.

I have put in order for Motherboard, 5900x and some RAM, and I went with 3600mhz CL16

Thanks for help guys, I will probably end up ordering this. I just need to convince myself to spend that much money.

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 3.7GHz, 64 MB, BOX (100-100000061WOF)

Asus TUF GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming 10GB GDDR6X (TUF-RTX3080-10G-GAMING)

Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS

G.Skill Ripjaws V, DDR4, 32 GB, 3600MHz, CL16 (F4-3600C16D-32GVKC)

Corsair RM 850i 850W (CP-9020083-EU)

be quiet! Pure Base 500DX (BGW37)

be quiet! Dark Rock 4 Pro (BK022)

I will probably order monitor after they send me PC because I can't really use 1440p with my current setup.

How is it working?

Im looking into buying something similar.

Cant find any graphics card stand alone, except the super expensive ones. So i guess i have to buy a premade one with following specs:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB PCIe SSD, 2TB HDD, GeForce RTX 3080 10GB

I'm quite happy with my build. CPU is probably an overkill for gaming but everything runs really well in 1440p on max settings and probably will for next years. It gets hot but it's not overheating. I always had cheap PCs and never spent that much money on it but I'm happy I did. :)

I don't know how long are queues and prices for premade PC but buying stand alone GPU for any reasonable price is quite imposible right now and probably will stay that way for next year or two.

I think my GPU might be a bit defective or something because it sometimes limit itself at around 90% performance and I'm too lazy and stupid to find why or how to fix it.

Edit: Upgrading my monitor to 1440p 144hz from 1080p 60hz was probably best investment of all of this.

I bought the almost exact same thing, actually JUST built it yesterday :D

5900X, 32GB Ram, 1Tb M2, RTX 3080.

20210930_194033.thumb.jpg.4b422cf9e90198cd4d63d0305eee7d31.jpg

As you might notice there's no GPU in yet, that's coming today. But the computer lit up when i flashed the BIOS yesterday :P So I can't say much for performance yet.

It does feel silly to pay overprice for the GPU, I paid 1280€ for mine. Fully aware people who bought it a year ago probably spent... 60% of what I paid or so? But I don't see GPU prices dropping anytime soon, and with the shortage I can't imagine waiting for black friday will help the slightest. So I just bit the bullet, I've been waiting too long.

In Sweden there's still cards to be had. Or rather, one needs to be quick and keep an eye open on forums etc for drops, because 3080's are flying of the shelves, but I got mine within a day or two. 1280€ might sound alot, but from what's available and prices right now it could have been alot worse.

Oh well, I'm old and not poor, I can manage :P

You will love it. My 5950X and 3080 handle anything I chuck at it. I totally went overkill with the CPU, but it was the only AMD chip available when I got it. I only overpaid for that really, and only £200 which like you I can afford.

Edit: I have my old 1440p 60Hz monitor, and the 144hz 1440p monitor and my setup can handle running 2 games in Ultra settings at once, hehehe

I paid in December close to 1100euro for a 3080 (albeit with waterblock) but still felt a bit funny in the tummy paying that much..
But with all the drama going on, and how much use we make of these things, no regret! Haha

I think these cards will last us pretty damn long also, they are powerfull enough to outperform the new consoles so for the next 6 years all major titles will be no problem. Especially with things like DLSS being more and more a thing. Solid investment!

Sounds promising! Since i thought this setup would last a while, i went a step further and went with: Intel Core i9-11900K, GeForce RTX 3090 24GB and watercooling.

thought Ern had a 5900x ?

I was on the fence about DLSS, I get great FPS at native for most titles so thought it redundant, but then I realised just how much heat DLSS and FSR can stop your PC generating so much heat in the summer

I have the 5950x, found it available, ordered it, day after, the 5900x I had been waiting for was being delivered, so I ended up with 2 processors, and I sort of couldn't send back the cheap one, now could I? - Sold the 5900 to a coworker since back then there was still a shortage.

I also went with a little more RAM, since Kunasha was trying to have a similair performing machine, at least I can say that I spent useless money on RAM that never gets used!

AND

@Ernestowhat RAM did you get and what speeds is it running at?

I have my Samsung b-die 3600MHz RAM chugging along nicely at 3800Mhz (1900Mhz Infinity fabric) 16-16-16-32-48

I've also tweaked my CPU curve offset and boost quite a bit now, with each core pretty much dialled in to the best it can be. The undervolt I have on my GPU is just the recommended settings from OptimumTech on youtube, conservative but works.

Hynix, 3600mhz 16-19, 64GB kit of 4 sticks

G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4 3600MHz 4x16GB (F4-3600C16Q-64GTZNC)

€411, incl freight, so a pretty good "budget" buy I think

It's amazing what we pay when we really want something:

pc.png

I ended up getting the alphacool waterblock for my RTX3080, then replaced all my fans with 6x Arctic Cooling P14 PWM 140s, and 6x Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM. Just those fans is quite a bit of money :). I should take a photo of what it looks like now the full loop is back in play.

Maybe I can't compete with David on the GPU front, but I can flex on disks. I no longer have any HDD in my system, so the HDD cages are completely gone from my case for the increased air flow. I also figured if I have PCI4, then I might as well put 2 PCI4 nvme drives in, oh there is 3rd nvme slot in the motherboard? lets fill that too.. That'll still let me run the 3 SATA SSD and the optical RW I still have a use for too...

Great snapshot of all the drives and i love the naming policy!

Where is the Porn drive ?

I presume it must be the 2tb one ?
