Sea of Thieves, Rare's piratical multiplayer sailing adventure, has almost reached the end of its year-long Technical Alpha. However, one last testing phase is scheduled before the game launches early next year - and everyone's invited to come aboard.

Rare's Technical Alpha was announced all the way back in December last year, and has slowly expanded its pool of testers from an initial 1,000 to nearly 200,000. For the final testing phase, however, everyone signed up to Sea of Thieves' Insider Programme will be given the opportunity to join in and play early.

If you're interested in a spot of pre-release seafaring, there's still time to sign up to the Insider Programme. The cut-off date for final submissions is December 1st.

 

There are a few caveats to registration however; firstly, you'll need to sign an NDA before you can participate in the testing phase, so it's only open to those aged 18 and above. Additionally, an Xbox Live account is required to play on Windows 10, and an Xbox Live Gold membership is needed to play on Xbox One. There's a FAQ for those requiring more details.

Rare has been surprisingly open with the community during Sea of Thieves' Technical Alpha, and the game's official YouTube channel is positively heaving with developer insights and useful information. If you're looking for a bit of a primer before you hoist anchor and embark on your grog-soaked adventure, it's a fine place to start.

Tarkov with pirates? Only three weapons and every thing is cosmetic. 

It is really fun just goofing around, stealing other peoples hard earned treasure and hearing them whine and shit talk.

It has some awesome PvE treasure hunt riddles and stuff. Allegedly. The PvP aspect is hilarious, especially if you semi-roleplay and are a little bit tipsy.

I think it's 16 per server instance or something.. it's kinda fun trying to ninja stuff back to town, but really needs 3 or 4 of you to play it properly

Beware of mutiny, I was leading Rellic, Saslic and Lyngs into great treasure and adventure, when they stabbed me in the back, by putting me in jail... ON MY OWN SHIP.

If you immediatly cancel your subscription and renew it the next month, its €1 again.

Also, if you want game pass then watch for amazon deals. You can stack up to 3 years of time.

I've still got a couple of years before my conversion of my Xbox One Live Gold to Game pass Ultimate runs out, they gave a lot of free time then

Having played this a bit now, both in premade parties (with Chimp and some other friends), solo and with pick up groups I must say it's very very enjoyable! 

 

It's a perfect game to play a session here a session there, adaptable to 1-4 people. I'd advice not taking it TOO seriously, aka don't go in with the mindset to grind gold (even though it's possible I think it'd get very boring trying to maximize efficiency) but just have fun. 

 

Lots of different stuff to do. Merchant runs, treasure hunting, skeleton killing, world events, pvp and all earning currency which can only be used for cosmetics (so no p2w is possible).

 

The best thing though is just the feel of sailing around. It has the perfect amount of chores to do around the boat (trimming sails, angling sails, steering, keeping lookout etc), the distances never feel too long and it's just a joy to cruise around doing stuff. 

 

Considering a game pass is only 1€/1$ I highly recommend checking it out, preferably with a crew which makes it a lot more fun.
