Custom loop water cooling

Recommended Posts

Forgot to post pics of the system after I expanded the water look so here's how it looks now (pic taken with a potato)

The plasma light effect of the ram doesn't appear on the camera easily :(

Also the camera picks up the UV light more than the human eye so it doesn't look quite that violet IRL

Very nice. I was going to ask for pics after you got the new stuff but forgot.

In the middle of planning a new build myself with a custom double hard tube solution. Also planning and acquiring what I need to build a full Simrig to make switching from Hotas and keyboard etc more comfortable and easy ( something like the Obutto ). The whole project will keep me busy for a few weeks and it's been years since I did any welding so we'll see how it goes!

My current system is a 6700k setup on AIO water so not in a rush, waiting for the release of a few new bits...

ok after hitting the temperature ceiling even with my cooling I decided to go and delid this badboy

and boy did it work!

so far I've only got max temp of 65C in stress tests where I earlier got around 85-90C, that's frigging amazing!

Intel messed up something with the 7700k IHS or the TIM because I have not been able to hit temp ceiling with my earlier CPU's.

If someone is interested in doing this, I used this tool and can really recommend it: https://shop.aquacomputer.de/product_info.php?language=en&products_id=3617

I used conductonaut as the TIM: http://www.thermal-grizzly.com/en/products/26-conductonaut-en

That's a huge difference. I know Kunasha has really good temps with his too. I was going to buy a tool and some liquid metal to do the 7700k i'll be getting but instead I bought one already done. Wasn't much extra over the cost of the extra bits and no risk of me screwing it up haha. I did then throw some extra money at a pre binned option that guarrantees a 24/7 OC @ 5.1ghz. It's Kunasha's fault though.

No more leak issues then?

mine appears to be game stable at 5.2Ghz now, topping at 82-85C when 100% load

1.410 VCore in BIOS, gives this (excuse cropped photo, I can take a screenshot another time)

OK!

So after running 5 years I decided to do full maintenance for the rig. The only thing I had done before this was change the liquid once and dust off every other year or something.

So I cleaned all the water blocks and radiators, changed the tubes, thermal pads and pastes. Here's what the parts looked like after 5 years if anyone wondered.

CPU block was the dirtiest. I think the gunk in the fins is residue from the o-ring. GPU block and pump had barely any residue in them.

The paste had turned nasty and the bracket had obvious discolorations on it. That is how it came out, I had not swiped the paste in the middle.

The liquid metal had faired well it seems. It had corroded the IHS a little, just enough to make it a little coarse where it was applied. No effect on the die.

Tygon tubes had changed color and the liquid itself had clearly more brownish tint than when it went in. No picture of the liquid though.

Just now, Drakhorn said:

how about now?

Yes!

What do you use as coolant? Distilled water or something premade?

Premades.

I used to have Nanoxia CF1 Cooling Fluid Pro Acid Green but now in that last picture I have Aquatuning Protect UV Green.

The new tubes came from Saint-Gobain and they've etched their labels on the tubes with a laser or something... no way to rub them off :(
