Lyngs Report post Posted May 30, 2012 Naicha wrote on Wed, 30 May 2012 16:32Update on your tank lyngs! need moar pictures and closer pictures. It is not very pretty atm. trimmed down everything hard a few days ago. Want stronger bushier plants. Will take some better pics in a few weeks when I get my new camera. Love the Mario tank! When will you be ready to start yours up?
Naicha Report post Posted May 30, 2012 In the process of finding a new place atm. So maybe 2-3 months. :/ Sucks, I'm so eager to continue with it. It's all done now anyway. Filters, backgrounds, everything is built, background is painted black. So it's ready to go. Meanwhile I'm studying fish species, plants and whatnot. It's actually not totally ready to go btw, I need a soft-thing-to-sit-on-while-outside-mat-thingy, don't know what they're called. But essentially a soft styrofoamish mat to glue to the bottom of the tank to make sure rocks won't sink through the sand and crack the bottom glass.
Naicha Report post Posted June 1, 2012 These species are nice fish. It seems though that it's pretty rare that Serpae Tetras are so strong red in color. Rummy nose tetras are cool though with the black/white tails and red heads. Maybe they are even more beautiful than neon tetras.
Naicha Report post Posted June 1, 2012 Might get a 30ish liters aquarium for free. My girlfriends parents don't want it anymore. So going to take it over to just experiment abit with. It's got some existing fish so I'll try not to hurt them ofcourse. But it could give me some experience testing stuff for my bigger aquarium later on. Naicha Report post Posted June 2, 2012 Saw that. : D Pretty awesome. The fish probably arent as happy thou.
Naicha Report post Posted June 13, 2012 Me tank as of now. It's currently filled with water though doing daily water changes of 50% cause it gets abit miscolored by the root. Also put someo filterwool in the filter to filter away smaller particles. Atm also awaiting plant delivery, with luck on friday, but probably beginning of next week.. Then when it's planted etc it will probably need a couple of days before I can introduce a very small amount of fish to get biology going.. Like 3 small fishies. Naicha Report post Posted June 15, 2012 Plants arrived! Alittle murky yet but it'll clear up until tomorrow.
Cogency Report post Posted June 15, 2012 It looks awesome! I kinda like the amount of plant there is atm. Will it become very bushy?
Naicha Report post Posted June 15, 2012 The plants will grow to 3-5 times their current size. So it's going to get alot more lush. If you remeber lyngs before->after pictures you know how much it grows if everything goes right. I'll trim down though if nessecary. About 2/3 of the aquarium floor will need to be "clear" though cause I will have fish who live along the bottom filtering sand through their mouths to find food. The plan is to have the left side very bushy and the right side alittle less, and then almost clear in the middle I also had a RED leafed plant on order to give a contrast to it all but they werent available so they refunded the money for that. We'll see if I order something like that later on...

Naicha Report post Posted June 16, 2012 Aquariums are soothing so when you've bought one you will be in such harmony all your anger will disappear (along with your money)!
Lyngs Report post Posted June 16, 2012 Loos AWESOME Naicha! Looking forward to when the plants have settled and you get some fishies in there. Just came back from holliday. I ofc forgot to take some pictures of my uncles catfish. He has gotten a few more smaller tanks since last I visited. Mae me wish for more space, so I can get a breeding setup of min. 10 100L tanks. My tank has been dark for a week which shows. All the plants have turned to a yellowish pale green. Will take a few weeks to get back to full lush green. No algae tho and the fish/shrimp are alive and well.

Naicha Report post Posted June 17, 2012 Need to get teh stupid co2-bubbling to accelerate though. 1 day after setup and getting like 2 bubbles / minute in the ladder.. Need like 15 at least. I'll chil for a couple of days and see if it picks up otherwise I'll have to try a different receipe

Wouldnt be able to dose fertiliser tho, so better not to have lights on. Naicha wrote on Sun, 17 June 2012 12:01Need to get teh stupid co2-bubbling to accelerate though. 1 day after setup and getting like 2 bubbles / minute in the ladder.. Need like 15 at least. I'll chil for a couple of days and see if it picks up otherwise I'll have to try a different receipe I use 2x 5L cans (changing one every week to keep a steadier flow of CO2) with 4L water, 400g sugar and 2g dry yeast. I mix the dry yeast with 100ml lukewarm water, using a fork makes sure you get plenty of oxygen into the mix. Let it sit 10 min. Then I add a pinch of sugar and mix it for about a minute and let it sit for another 10 min. Mix the rest of the sugar and water realy good, add the yeast mix and hook it up to your tank. This recipe is usualy for 2L bottles, but the more water you put in the longer it takes for the yeast to die from the alcohol build-up.
Naicha Report post Posted June 17, 2012 I use bicarbonate to neutralize the alcohol. I only have a 1 liter co2 reactor now. But thinking of getting 2x 2 liter or something. I don't think I need 2x5 liters its such a small tank and I woudlnt have anywhere to put them. I'd just need some more tubing and 3 bottles. Then just let those bubbles go through my bubble ladder which is already working great. I'd need backvents aswell to prevent pressure drop when refilling them. EDIT: Btw, about the fertilizer, i'm using PMDD. And the instructions are only to dose fertizilier when doing a water change(1 time a week) in general, are you using a higher dose? (ofc if you have lots lots lots of co2 then you need more fertilizer) EDIT2: I just put the reactor on top of the tank cause its abit warm there, now its already accelerated to 6 bubbles per minute. Naicha Report post Posted June 17, 2012 Basically. 2 2 Liter reactors goes via non-return valves to T-cross. T-cross goes down in a 0,5 liter bottle filled with water (tube goes down into the water), this to clean the Co2. Then simply a tube from the water bottle (up top in the air) to the bubble ladder in the aquarium. But dunno really, when I'm already on it I might aswell go for 5 liter bottles, it could mean that it'll last longer and thus less maintenance from my part. EDIT: This is my recipe 5 l water 5 dl sugar 2 tablespoon milkpowder 1 teaspoon bicarbonate 2 ml dry yeast. the bicarbonate acts to neutralize the acohol levels and the milkpowder is a protein reagent which controls the reaction abit so that it'll react slower and over a longer period of time. Kinda like the neutronbrakes in a nuclear reactor.

I havent found any documentation that bicarbonate has any significant effect on prolonging the production of CO2. Your CO2 production should peak after about 48-72 hrs depending on temperature. Around 24-28C should be ideal for most baking yeast. I use the PPS-Pro fertilizer system: https://sites.google.com/site/aquaticplantfertilizer/home/pp s-pro
Naicha Report post Posted June 17, 2012 I wonder though how much Co2 is necessary for my plants... But well if its "too much" I'll just add more fertilizer and it'll grow faster, which is only a good thing really. So well, I'll maybe buy some stuff later and build. ^^ EDIT; Yea you dose the same as me basically but I dose more once a week instead of daily, cause its too much of a hassle to do everyday ^^
