Aquariums!

Yes but since electrics could be different in various countries I figured I'd ask for swedish people. If any. Maybe a longshot but I'm just so lazy to go locate an electrician. ^^

Send a PM to Airo, He's swedish and an electrician but he's out fishing now so might not respond until tomorrow.

It's a lights, for his aquarium, that is filled with water, that can splash on the lights, maybe the aquarium has a stainless steel frame, someone is holding the edge while having the top lid off, while fishing up a dead plant, so the water splashes on the lights, and the steel frame + you becomes the ground, and you die, quite fast.

Sad story.

No and no. And even though the electrics are water proofed, I always disconnected the power when fiddling with stuff. But I see your point though. :P originally it wasnt grounded either, obviously, since it's not a grounded cable.

Ground or die trying. as for the blue and brown wires they go to 1 and 2, it's AC, so no matter what you put where.

Don't need to, but since I'm already doing so much other stuff I might aswell replace the cable. They aren't expensive..

I have been a passionate aquarist for more than 20 years and I have never heard of anyone getting electricuted by their aquarium lights. A lot of stuff has to go wrong before there is any risk of getting zapped. Water has to somehow penetrade the watertight rubber seals and bypass the fusetube inside the light. The only way I see this happening is if you drop the whole lid into the aquarium and the light box gets damaged.

Someone please correct me if Im wrong.

Was at a party once where someone fell on the aquarium, light rig fell in the water and the power went out. All said and done every fish in there was floating around on their backs. Except a lonely catfish of awesomeness, can't kill those things apparently.

No.

That reel is grounded, if the device you plug into it isn't, it won't matter.

Catfish are generaly awesome. Maybe they have nine lives like cats. Wink My uncle has a big one which is more than 20 years old in his 1000L aquarium.

I asked because the reel I use on my aquarium lighting doesnt have grounding but the plug on the light does and all this talk has gotten me a bit worried. I cant turn off the light while I trim my plants, so that jojo reel would make it safe? The whole lid and frame on my tank is aluminium. I always thought that as long as you have a RCCB relay you are pretty safe... apparently not. Confused

Sounds more dodgy with ungrounded things if its metal. In general metal constructions are grounded and plastic ones are rarely grounded.

I always been fascinated by an aquarium. The thing that puts me off is (well besides the price for a decent size aquarium) the maintenance!

But would love something with all kinds of funky coloured fish in it. ^.^

Proper care and knowledge reduces the need for cleaning, knowing how to deal with algae etc. But yes, you will need to exchange about 25% of the water every week etc.

So it's alittle work here and there, but imo in general it doesnt have to take up all that much time.

I'm in the bizniz of rebuilding and creating a beautiful place for future fish to live. :) Mounting "3d" backgrounds to the back on the aquarium etc so that the backgroudn will look like real rock etc.

Its fun, and later on to see your plants grow and your aquarium etc take shape.

Lyngs posted a really beatiful aquarium in the gallery camera thread.

A typical anyday random aquarium with not that much care and effort imo will look bad, terrible, but if you go the extra lengths like Lyngs did, they will be amazingly beautiful.

EDIT: you can get decent size aquariums pretty cheap if you buy them used though..

So many people go OMGWTFDAMN!!11 HAZ TO HAVE ONE!111 and then they buy the biggest one in the store and realise that "oh, it has to be cleaned? dont not want.:(" and then they sell it again for half price..
