    • The final battle wasn’t a struggle. It wasn’t even a battle. But when Ginnunga after weeks of war declared Cogency Lord of Balenos it was an effort that never the less had taken its fair share of blood, sweat and tears. Of damage and dedication.

Damage and dedication. It’s a meme in Ginnunga, used to sum up everything that’s needed to succeed in a mmorpg. Part fun, part serious. There are of course other components in success, in the case of Black Desert Online luck is certainly one, but most obstacles can be overcome with enough damage and dedication.

Some guilds think the first mentioned is the most important one. Some guilds think it's the only one. Damage. Fielding numbers. Having the best gear. Hitting harder than your enemies. Being larger, tougher and stronger than everyone else. But forgetting the second is a sure way of becoming nothing more than a whisper in the mmorpg history, no matter the game.

Dedication means never giving up. It means taking a beating, but not going down. It means learning, adapting and planning ahead. It means making sacrifices for a greater cause. It means making friends and enemies with consideration. It means being gracious in defeat, because you know the last blow hasn’t landed. Because the last blow never lands.

The territory Balenos, on the EU server Croxus, has seen six conquests. Ginnunga has, as the only guild, been there for every single one.

First there was fracture. Ginnunga, KHAOS, Rain and BIRDSxOFxDAWN fought, but no victory was to be had for any party. But we did not give up.

Second came revelation. Ginnunga and Marauders were preparing to duke it out, but out of nowhere Ember and their hired fighters Dishonoured charged into Balenos. Ginnunga held against overwhelming numbers for a hour and a half before admitting defeat. Marauders fell soon there after. We learned that day that the rules of war are neither clear nor fair. But we did not give up.

Third time saw the rise of the resistance. Ginnunga gathered friends like Traiana and Hydra to fight the lords and their hired thugs, but in the end it was to no avail. We knew we were going up against a much stronger opponent, gear and number wise, but chose to not back down. And at the end of the day Ember once again hoisted their banners over Velia. But we did not give up.

Fourth marked the turning point. Sick of Embers tyranny the guild Broddicted took up arms next to Ginnunga. Finding themselves outnumbered for the first time Ember quickly realized their time as rulers of Balenos had come to an end. In a last ditch effort they fought like mad and held their defence for three hours, thus liberating Balenos, leaving it without a lord. Victory once again slipped through our fingers. But we did not give up.

Fifth the hammer fell. Addicted and Broddicted set their sights on Balenos and there was no stopping the horde. Ginnunga decided to draw steel once again, if not to claim Balenos to at least be on the field when Ember were finally chased out of Velia. And chased out they were. In a battle that was as bloody as it was short Ember found themselves surrounded on three sides, unable to even step outside their own base. Slowly the three fronts tightened the noose and not 15 minutes into the conquest Embers tower fell, for the first time in Balenos. There was no possible victory that day and Broddicted were awarded the territory. But we did not give up.

Sixth time the heart rose. Addicted and Broddicted turned towards the east and the lands of Valencia. Ginnunga held back as the battle raged in the desert and as ShadowElite fell among the dunes and Broddicted were named lords of Valencia the time had come for the heart to finally rise. Broddicted let their tower be destroyed and thus Ginnunga at last claimed the throne of Balenos.

We did not give up. We never give up.

Our enemies might fault us for the friends we’ve made. Our enemies might not think we deserve the spoils of war we now claim. Our enemies may think that damage should reign supreme. But we know making history takes more.

Ginnunga currently has no allies, but that does not mean we stand alone. There are guilds we've worked with for mutual benefits, we have guilds we're friendly with to varying degrees and we have enemies who are different shades of bitter. Through our 17 years as a guild we've come to learn that standing alone is not a sign of power, it's an omen for defeat. In games where guilds number in the hundreds shutting yourself out of the politics and believing damage is all you need seldom leads to longevity. You need both.

      Damage and dedication.

Thanks to Traiana and Hydra for being there when no one else was. Thanks to Ember and Dishonoured for the fun fights, for keeping us on our toes and for making us make both good and bad calls in our pursuit of victory. Thanks to Addicted/Broddicted for honouring your word.

A big thanks to all of our members who have worked so hard the last couple months. Improving gear, levels, crafting for elephants, slaying hundreds of thousands of monsters during guild quests and who spent every waking moment in the service of Ginnunga. You’re the reason we exist.

A big thanks also to our leaders whos work both infront and behind the curtains makes it all work. Lord ”Never-TRI” Cogency, Ernesto ”AFK” Pig, Kunasha ”Did I miss it again?” Wigglr, Lyngs ”99 problems but my bank account ain’t one” Goldenpants, Gromk ”EMO is actually a valid lifestyle” Iller, Cupe ”Summer cat” Gathering god. And Chimp ”Drunk Diplo Best Diplo” Chimpzard whos semi-slacking semi-relentless pursuit of new friends and foes lays the foundation of much of what we do.

Claiming Balenos of course doesn’t mean that our adventures in BDO are finished. Not at all. But we have now accomplished the highest goal we set for ourselves just about 6 months ago when we started playing.

We're not the largest of guilds and we've got no aspirations to become the absolute strongest. We've held that position in games past enough to not yearn for it. We know there's a price to pay for such stature and we know there are values we hold in higher regard. Friendship. Freedom. Fun.

But at our core we're competitive, so we do it our way with the means at our disposal. Be it with help of force or friends Ginnunga is one of the seven guilds who have held territory on Croxus. Not a small feat for a old heavy heart.

      Until next time,
Sinful ”RNG hates me even if I got 3 Kzarkas!” Spinful

    • What's you character name and how did you come up with it?
My most used character name is Saslic and I stole it from the only book I have read voluntary. On german the book is called 'Drachenkrieger' (I-III) - english: Dragonmaster Trilogy. My second most used character name is Rayne and is stolen from the BloodRayne movie. I'm horrible in creating names myself.

      How old are you?
I just turned 26 but the people in the supermarket always want to see my identity card.

      Where do you live?
      Berlin, Germany

What MMO do you play at the moment?
At the moment I play Black Desert Online. I play the most underpowered class called Sorceress. Chimp cries alot about my class and I bet he payed the developers to nerf it even more .

      Editor: *ahem*

      Any other games currently?
Since BDO takes so much time I have almost no time to play anything else. But when I find some time for other games I play Dota 2 as offlaner, support/roamer or midlaner - I hate to play as carry, never have a decent team.

What was your first computer game ever?
I am not sure what the first game was I played on my father's Amiga. But I am pretty sure it was either Space Invader or Pacman.

What was your first multiplayer online experience?
I am not so sure what my first multiplayer online experience is. I started to play alot offline with the son of my neighbors and his friends who is about 4 years older then me. The first game I started to play online might be Counterstrike 1.6, Diablo II, Age of Empires or Command & Conquer

      What was your first MMO?
My first MMO I played was Guild Wars (1). I have played it for 4 or even more years and I bought all expansions. I spend the most time in the random 4 vs 4 arena as a healer and sometimes as archer. Also with Guild Wars I started to love the healer class because it was simply the most challenging class. In all following MMOs I played the healer class when it was available. Sadly the newer MMOs don't have healers anymore.

What is your favorite snack while gaming?
      Beer, what else?

Editor: Obviously, he really means milk, as can be seen here

      When/How did you join Ginnunga?
l joined in the late 2014 when we played ArcheAge. I started the game with Search, November, Tarania and Hardedged. I think the most of them knew Ginnunga from Lineage 2 already which I never seriously or officially played. So they thought it would be a good idea to join Ginnunga and I agree with it. Sadly these weak germans can't get a longer hold on a game these days
      .
Tell us your most memorable MMO moment?
When I solo killed multiple parties in BDO (remember: as the most underpowered class called Sorceress ) and everyone thought I was actually good. No, I think the most awesome MMO moments I had were in Warhammer with the above called people and some more, when we took huge raids down with just our small group. Additional I love every good PvP moment I have in MMOs.

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.
I have a Bachelor of Engineering in Energy and Drive Systems and now I study Law. I suffer under cluster headache (also called suicide headache), the upside is that it's not chronic and I suffer only a couple weeks each year - in this time I am more then useless.
      My real name is Kai.

Editor: Saslic being a pirate, apparently

    • What's you character name and how did you come up with it?
WarCrier! Mainly i got it from the Orc mage class back in Lineage2. Kinda stuck after i made a Orc warrior in WoW. And I cry out my anger on the battlefield!

      How old are you?
I am 30 years old, actually I will turn 31 in 5 days. But this is all a secret

      Where do you live?
Norway - Hamar. Its a little town witch is 1,5 hours north from Oslo.

What MMO do you play at the moment?
      I play Black Desert Online.

      Any other games currently?
I tend to drop by League of Legends. Alot of my friends play it.

What was your first computer game ever?
I had a 286 with California Summer Games on it. And Sk8orDie - omg i miss it.

What was your first multiplayer online experience?
My very first was Command and Conquer with Zapfcarn and our cousin.
I didnt know what the fuck i was doing at the time, and i was so much younger - so i only got to try it once.
I later jumped on the Counter-Strike wave - even remember i dumped one of my early girlfriends for clan wars and random 5v5s.

      What was your first MMO?
Funny that you ask, cause i was just about to say "And then.. The game was there.." on the last question. But yeah lets go - And then.. This game.. "What did you say??" "We can have wars with over 100 people?" "And its 3rd person ?" "WTF is quests..?" "MMORPG?"
THE game was installed on my computer - Lineage 2

What is your favorite snack while gaming?
      Either beer or chips

      When/How did you join Ginnunga?
Well, i came stumbling into this MMO. Was in doubt to start with, but than i saw this Berserker movie on youtube, so i ordered the game, and i got the same feeling as i got with Lineage2 - So when i heard from Zapfcarn, that he had found a guild with you old farts - i had to join.

Tell us your most memorable MMO moment?
      SATURDAY 9th JULY 2016!!!!!

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.
My epic journey to Egypt with my Father and Zapfcarn.

Well, this night was hot. All night were hot, but i remember this night had the desert feeling, dusky sand covered sky filled with a sundown.
Me.. Im sitting in the hotel bar, with some other norwegian families. Did not know them.
I remember we ordered a Long island Icetea from the bar, and they missed the cointreau, so they used a blue curacao. Tasted like shit. Now is the point were everything went black. But i remembered i came back to the hotel room witch was in the first floor - and straight out into the pool. How ever... I wake up by to things - i have to shit and i have to throw up. I jump out of the bed trying to find out the smartest solution to who i was going to manage this. Now.. What i do..
I opened the door to puke outside - Failed - I opened the door, yes, but i puked inside the room. Ok! Part one done. Second, toilet is smart - - i guess....
So there i am sitting on the trashbin in the middle of the room. This is were i start to come back to my self and actully understand what im doing. Im still pretty drunk.
I go back to bed, wake up 4 hours later of a smell (you dont want to know) - Looking around, i can see the blue pond 20 cm away from the door - a trashbin in the middle of the room - And then.. KNOCK KNOCK LOOM SERVICE KNOCK KNOCK.. i think quick "scream 10 minuts please" did a superman move into the shower washed my self ran too my suitcase and throw on my swimming gear and run out and jump in the pool. Thinking i was all good. Then i realize i did something fun the other night, since E V E R Y singel person on the hotel knew me by my first name..

    • What's you character name and how did you come up with it?
Warder is my most used name, I came up with it when I made a BD in L2 and I was reading Wheel of Time atm,
seemed like a fitting name for a supporting dualwielder back then.
If warder is taken I go for Weirder (GrandSavage gave me that name) or Navita sometimes (current name in BDO)

      How old are you?
I often clame that I remembered the dinosaurs, and that is not a lie. But my drivers license will tell you that I am 36 years right now.

      Where do you live?
I live in Norway, Fredrikstad. A nice little town by the coast.

What MMO do you play at the moment?
I am currently slacking in BDO to Ern's big frustration. One day, when all you guys quit I will be strong!

      Any other games currently?
      Solitaire when I have me-time.

What was your first computer game ever?
As for PC, it was prince of Persia on dad's black&white laptop.
Before that it was commodore 64 with wintergames/summergames/sexgames (that last one was pretty intense for a 11 year old, oddly enough my parents didn't confiscate it)

What was your first multiplayer online experience?
Counter-Strike beta 4,2 something that I played with the awesome fredrikstad-guild Mesed.
We took great pride in being the most fun guild to fight against, loose or win, all had a good time.
Also played Diablo 2 with the same bunch

      What was your first MMO?
Lineage 2, I was in the evil Dawn alliance.

What is your favorite snack while gaming?
Anything that can help my bodybuilding
(Not really, rarely snack when playing, but if I do, nuts or chips)
      Oh, and ginger ale...

      When/How did you join Ginnunga?
Even though Cog allways say Aion, it was in Rift. I applied since Meriel and Raaf played with you, and I was allways playing with them. (In Aion i was a poor guildless schmuck noone cared about)
I also remember Calyn being a very intimidating and serious guy in that interview on TS. Ern was just being the usual friendly guy

Tell us your most memorable MMO moment?
I have had many fun moments in ginnunga, I have made many people go "awww Warder, read the fucking forum, yes we are raiding right now, jesus....."

But, I think the best moment was in Dawn when I came online piss faced drunk, during an important raid, singing on TS and refusing to shut up.
And getting very insulted by one of the other BD's that commented on my bad singing.
I tried for a good hour to PK him, but they all just ignored me and healed him up whenever he got low on HP.

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.
I am actually a nice and caring guy behind all that pervy stuff

    • Chimp (Johan), Sisters and Mom.

What's you character name and how did you come up with it?

Well its Chimp, however it started with DancingChimp on Xbox Live. I wanted a name that was a bit funny. DancingChimp made me picture a chimp dancing all the time, so I actually laughed when I saw my name.
During this I only played Magic The Gathering on the xbox so it was also nice because the others name was always SUPERDEATH012321 and XLordofDestructionXX and so on.

Funny thing that many have actually told me that its a really good name. Even in BDO on my Valk that has the name "DancingChimp".

This name was also my instagram account and everything else related to me.

      How old are you?
33... ok ok.. 34 this year.

      Where do you live?
I live in Stockholm but during some of my Ginnunga years I lived in China. Which is why some peope have heard me being refered to as the Chinaman. It was terrible becasue vpn, lag and hours. But, I made it work. Kind of.

What MMO do you play at the moment?
Black Desert Online, because the entire guild plays it! What the guild plays, I will ALWAYS join in on, even tho I might not like the game. Because I like playing with friends.
*wink wink* to the people refusing to join because we might quit some day. I will always play whatever game we play, for whatever time we will play it.

      Any other games currently?
Well, I really like to play Heroes of the Storm. I do that during when servers are down. Its the best day of the week. Its also refered to as "Chen Day" after a hero in the game.

What was your first computer game ever?
I was quite early with playing on a computer and actually had my own BBS when I was younger blocking the phoneline. My father also was a lot in china so I was really early with a console. It was just a wheel and I played PONG on it. So, that was the first one.. fucking PONG.

What was your first multiplayer online experience?
I use to play MUDs before during my senior highschool a lot. But after that I played Lineage 1 and played it for a very long time. After that it was Asherons Call, Darktide server full pvp!

My first memory in the MUD world was stepping outside the caves as an orc, I read every line really felt the world. I followed a Swedish guy who played from KTH. I was so nervous and didnt know what was happening. Then the free people came and a dwarf planted his axe in my head and stole all my gear (full drop). The KTH guy laughed and ran away chasing. Worst hour of my life. Since that day, I have always strived to understand everything and kill everyone!

      What was your first MMO?
As stated above I must say it was Lineage 1. Me and one of our members Papercuts played it together.
We had a pledge (guild) in beta called Disney. I was super super super weak, but I made really strong friends. So me and Papercuts ran around and everyone thought we were really strong. But actually, they could prb killed us instantly. But I made friends with the strongest people ont he server, so I they ahd my back always. Then I traded my level 15 elf for a level 33 warrior, then i traded the level 33 warrior for a 45 elf. So without killing a single mob I went from level 15 elf to level 45 elf. Papercuts was super mad because he was struggling and fighting skeletons and for him it was super super slow. To get money I scammed people and stole their stuff. I did it well and also got decent money from it. While Papercuts was still angry on this, he also got a lot of shit from other players because he was associated with me, while I switched account and lived free, he was attacked. Hahaha, the memories.

In Asherons Call I was fooled to play som kind of unarmed melee char named "Angust Nordbo", I was terrible, everything was terrible and I was more or less just killed instantly upon seeing an enemy. Most of my time I was being powerleved so I didnt know how to play or what was happening at all. Sinful was also playing as a random pker, I did not play with him even tho were are friends in real life. Because he was evil. I was anti-pk, so I was good.

What is your favorite snack while gaming?
Now I don't actually snack that much it was random, but when I was really hardcore back in the days, it was actually Jambalaya Sausage.
Its the best, before you start hating on me, try it.. best computer snack!

      When/How did you join Ginnunga?
I was playing RIFT with some friends, Sinful included. Sinful was officer in some Swedish guild (Aesir) but he manage to end up in drama and rage quit the guild. So we all had to leave. I then grouped with some random people in a dungeon, they were decent and fun. Social and didn't fuckup as much as pugs usually do. This was a Ginnunga group with Argee. I discussed it with Sinful and the others and we applied.

After the interview with Ernesto he BEGGED us to join and promised gold and glory. Still waiting on both gold and glory.
      Now its just work.

Tell us your most memorable MMO moment?
There are so so many good.

One very strong one was in Lineage 1, me and Papercuts was on a siege both with a "Cloak of Invisibility", we were the special kill squad because they thought we were so strong. But we were not strong and prb didn't kill anything. Just sneaking around the castle. But it was so exciting and fun. ... I guess you had to be there.

There was some really really good moments in Archeage, if I am to take something a little bit closer in time. When me and Rellic stole the Pirate flag from the pirate island chased by Pirate players, that was really exciting. I think I laughed so I couldn't breath.

But, sometime playing with Ginnunga I just laugh so much it hurts. The funny thing is, its usually when we are just grouping and grinding and not doing anything special. The preparation for big events we do as a guild I always enjoyed so much. Like when we prepared for the siege in Archage. The siege sucked so much and was so buggy. But the few days leading up to it was fantastic! The commitment, the feeling on teamspeak. We had a goal, everyone was willing to spend every penny on them to make it happen. It didn't happen.

MMOs have given me so much joy in my life, for so many years.

Ok, I almost forgot. The launch of WOW, for sure!
Me, Sinful and Papercuts we bunker up food in my apartment, we lock ourselves in for 1 week together and just pushes it! Slept in shifts. It was absolute insane. During the release we didnt want to stand in line with the crazy people screaming "FOR THE HORDE". So we drank beer across the street and decided to go when the line was "ok". We went in, took our copy, ignored all the shit happening and pictures. We took a Taxi to my place and just went for it. Servers crashed, Sinful got in and took a few levels faster. That little extra he got, expanded until he was like a full level higher then me on level 40.
      Cheater.

My god, I should also write something here about Shadowbane. How me and Sinful controlled the entire server with an ironfist. I was leading a raid and said "one more word, or emote I will kick you from guild and have you killed. " One Finnish guy did an emote. I had 5 people jump him instantly, killed him, looted him and guild kicked him. Then I said.. "anyone else? or we ready to do this?"
We went for a raid and destroyed EVERYONE... EEEEVERYONE! We destroyed cities, we had guilds doing our bidding that leveling up chars for us. We macroed all the time on 1 account and leveled up stuff on another.
It was an entire server under the fist of Sinful and Chimp. Much joy!

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.
A lot of people know a lot about me. I have no secrets. But maybe something.
I have 3 sisters, spread around the world. South Sweden, West Sweden and Hong Kong. My father also lives in Hong Kong and been in Asia for most of the years since 1994. I live in Stockholm now since (1999) but I grow up on the country side outside Gothenburg. We had horses and shit all my life so I am good at riding and also doing horsemanship and stuff.

I have a Masters Degree in International Business from Dublin and a Bachelor in Economics. With a master thesis on Organizational Culture.

Papercuts lived with me for six kind of unhealthy and crazy month in Shanghai.

I speak Mandarin. So when they take over the world, I can beg for my life in Chinese.

      EXTRA EXTRA
Chimp teaching the country life to city friends at my Moms farm. (Im the guy in blue)

Teaching how to proper tractor with beers.

      Teaching how to shoot intruders

Teaching how to ride into battle

Chimp taking over the intruders are getting to close.

    • Ginnunga has always been about the fights. About the glory. About heads held high no matter the outcome.

We've won and lost countless wars during the years. Conquered entire games, as with Titan Alliance in Guild Wars 2, servers as in Lineage 2 or multi world battles as in Elder Scrolls Online.

To us the arena doesn't matter, it's about standing shoulder by shoulder besides sisters and brothers and putting ourselves to the test.

Our enemies know that drawing steel against the heart means there'll be blood. Even in the face of certain defeat we'll fight. Even when we know we'll get beat we show up. Enduring flames only makes us more determined. Tempering a blade only makes it stronger.

Black Desert Online hasn't even had its full features of wars implemented, but our kills already number in the thousands. We've had fair fights, bad fights, good fights and we've been crushed. It's not all the same, but part of the game.

At the end of the day we've dished out far more pain than we've received. We're proud of our results and the efforts of our members.

Now the node wars are coming. Soon the deserted castles of Mediah, Balenos, Calpheon and Serendia will make up the scenery of the biggest battles Black Desert Online has seen.

We're not sure we'll come out on top in the coming weeks. We're not sure Cogency will wear a crown or if we'll be left fighting for crumbs from the lords table.

What we're sure of is that we'll be there. Side by side. Shoulder by shoulder.

Those who draw steel against the heart better know there'll be blood.

    • There is only one lord, and his name is Cogency. In his name we've opened our hearts, spread our... hearts and welcomed new brothers and sisters in our ranks.

Ginnunga has always made it our number one priority to help those in need (right after having fun and being awesome), so when we heard the cry of a thousand (20ish) lost souls we could not sit idly by.

The guild Reliant on the Black Desert Online server Croxus recently fell on hard times. But as Lord Cogency often says "It's always darkest just before dawn". And dawn came in the shape of a heart.

We generally aren't very fond of taking in big groups of people. Our long history in gaming has taught us it seldomly turns out well. There's often a bad apple we don't want, and that bad apple drags the good apples down and when you try to make äppelmust (google translate) out of the lot it turns to shit.

But we've also learned not to pass up a good deal when we see one and after discussions with this particular group we realised they were simply too good to pass up.

They've already been with us a week, but it's time we in a more official manner welcomed the ex Reliants into our ranks.

So *deep breath* Fluffypops, Chasiin, Ayleene, Esparza, Wennom, ItBurnsWhenIPee, Friedman, Plague, Crusader, Musashi_Miyamoto, Marakai, Ravane, IsHijWeer, Absent, Dedious, Dresan, Enilion, Archfiend, Marit, Zem, Vernii, Fallinn, Rekaii, Gluekskekz, JustAveraqe, UchikLoL and Twiddlewood, WELCOME as trials of Ginnunga!

May you ever walk in the light of our lord and slay migmugs in the name of the heart.

Some of our older trials have also managed to endure the intense mental strain of their test period and passed with almost flying colors. Hence we've accepted Zapfcarn, Warcrier, Mitxuko and Tangha as full members of Ginnunga! We hope to have you around for years to come.
We'll be back with more actual news shortly, we're just kind of busy winning at everything right now.

Til next time, see you in the desert.

    • Cogency

      Zyphie was useful!

      By Cogency, in News,

After being a member of Ginnunga for over 10 years, Zyphie was finally useful today. He managed to grab an extra large quest for the guild so we could kill a billion Manes and get guild exp.

      Praise and joy.
