About the MMO guild Ginnunga

- Who we are
Ginnunga is an online gaming guild based in Europe which was formed in 1999 with focus on MMOs. We have a basic set of rules and morals that guides our behaviour, regardless of which game we play and our motto has always been that we should have fun together. This does however not mean that we are just a family guild. We play to win - not always to be the best, but we are quite aware of quality, not just in personality and behaviour, but also in game excellence. We are currently playing Guild Wars 2 on Blackgate and WoW on Nordrassil

What's you character name and how did you come up with it?

Back in the early 90's my friends started calling me Lynx because I loved climbing and sneaking up on people to give them a scare. So I used that as a gaming nick untill I started playing online games and found it had usualy always been taken. So I changed it to Lyngs. A old family name on my mothers side. Since then my main character has always carried the name.

How old are you?

I turned 37 last week. As long as I stay away from teenagers I dont feel old at all. *cough*

Where do you live?

I live in Silkeborg, the most beautiful city in Denmark. It is surrounded by large (by Danish standards) lakes and forrest.

What MMO do you play at the moment?

Trying hard to find time to play EVE. "Someone" keeps sending me invites for Hello Kitty Online but I just dont have the time.

Any other games currently?

Sadly not. It has been a long time since I played anything that could keep my interest for more than a few hours.

What was your first computer game ever?

I think it was an early version of pong on a Atari 2600, but to be sure I would have to tab into parts of my brain that hasnt been active for decades.

What was your first multiplayer online experience?

If by online you mean the general term that indicates a state of connectivity. Then it was Stunt Car Racer on two Amiga 500's via a null modem cable. If you mean the Internet then it was either Doom or Warcraft.

What was your first MMO?

I was a bit late to the MMO genre, considering my age. My first was Jumpgate (twitch based cross between X-wing and Elite/X), followed by EVE and Lineage 2.

What is your favorite snack while gaming?

When ever my GF wants to spoil me she lets me play games without disturbing other than to give me a big bag of Katjes - Salty Herrings (salmiac Liquorice). I could stuff my face with those till my gums start bleeding.

When/How did you join Ginnunga?

I am a relatively new member. I joined early 2011 as my old community didnt have much interest in RIFT. Some of them joined Ginnunga in WAR and Kunasha told me you guys were awesome. Back then i thought of Kunasha as a person with high standards so I applied. Wink

Tell us your most memorable MMO moment?

That is a realy tough question. Jumpgate gave me my first coordinated PvP experience. We were a small group of 8 friends who desided to try and deny anyone passage through a busy system. After spending over a month gathering supplies. We moved all our computers to one of the guys workplace to be able to all be in the same room (for fast communication) and still have great connectivity by that times standards lol. We basicly broke the game for everyone else by killing anyone who entered the system for most of a weekend. Only after the server crashed several times late Sunday evening due to everybody wanting a piece of the action we gave up. I had open blisters in my hand from holding my trusty sidewinder joystick almost non stop for more than 40 hours.

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.

At the age of 17, three friends and I went on a weekend mini-cruise. I was so hyped and looked forward to the trip for weeks. Partying, drinking and getting laid was the plan. Before the ship had undocked I got sea sick and spent the whole trip puking and cock blocking my friends by insisting I would jump ship if they left me alone. Embarassed

What's you character name and how did you come up with it?

My character name is Meilink, it was the nickname from a friend that now is with the angels. I used this name for first time in Lineage 2, before that my name was Ramzon or Mehrunes Dagon (my real name in elvish). Since L2 I used Meilink and created her sister Yurico and her bro Ramzon and I used Himura as last name. Then I have 3 characters in every game now.

I have a facebook profile for Meilink https://www.facebook.com/Meilink04 with ingame pictures.

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.

After all these years here is hard tell something they dont know about me, but let me see.... When a was about to come to Spain. I almost get in jail because I does an internet felony, I stole 100 accounts for connect to internet and one day one of my friends was at home and he use one of the accounts for login from my home by mistake, then the informatic police got my IP and then they came to my home, hopefully the police only discover 5 accounts :) the rest of the accounts I shared with some friends and teach them how to do to dont get uncovered.

The police told me that i have to pay 150.500 colombian pesos or i go jail, i paid and then travel to Spain.

What's your character’s name and how did you come up with it?

My main character's name is Xiindra. Since there isn't a draenei language as well-known as elvish (like Quenya or Sindarin) I had to do some thinking. draenei come from space and they are humanoids with some animal treats. This can seem pretty far-fetched but it just popped into my head at the time - In Larry Niven's Tales of Known Space, there is an animal race known as Kzinti. Granted, they are furry and cat-like, but still, I wanted to name my character Kzin. However, that was already taken on Draenor, my then-home, so I altered the name to something that was not taken. Kzin, became Xin, which became Xiin, which became Xiindra. Clear logic, isn’t it? :)

My GW2 character's name was way easier. Being a mesmer with illusions the name Inwis, which is an acronym for “It is Not What It Seems”, appeared (pun intended) perfect. I really enjoy looking at opposing players attacking one of my clones. It is truly not always what it seems.

The name has also another meaning. Sylvari are tree-people and nature bound like elves. Inwis means “change of mood”, “moody”, “with an attitude” in Quenya.

How old are you?

Physically, I’m pretty old. I turned 58 in the beginning of november 2012. I have four children ages 17 – 29, three boys and a girl. In my mind I guess I’m still, like, “childish”?

Where do you live?

I live in a small town in northern Sweden. We have winter most of the time. There is a fair amount of ski slopes nearby, even in town next to the ice hockey arena. BTW, our team is in the top of the Elite Series :). The team is very popular with people here. At every year’s first training session on ice there can be several thousand spectators at the arena - lol.

Hemavan - Tärnaby is our county’s local ski resort, about 400 kms from where I live. Now and then I enjoy skiing in the alps, this year (it’s still 2012) in Cervinia in March. It was awesome! I’ve been snowboarding for some time (10 - 15 years?) but I think I’m beginning to get too lazy (or too much of a coward) now so last year I got myself a pair of all-mountain skis. They are so fun! It is interesting to feel that even at mediocre skill you can appreciate new ski technology.

We enjoy a rather short, intensive summer. As we are close to the Bay of Bothnia, and we also have a summer house by the sea, we spend some time in and on the water. However, last summer was mostly rain, rain, and rain, although we managed to repair an rebuild a roof on a small cabin between the showers.

What MMO do you play at the moment?

At this time I primarily play Wow. Second in line comes GW2, which is an awesome game in WvW.

I am not extremely fond of the grinding in Wow, which is worse than ever in MoP. I stay off it as much as I can without hampering my gearing progress. I think I was damaged by the Sons of Hodir.

What I do like are raids, overcoming a challenge together with some really nice people. Playing a priest has had its ups and downs, but in Cata and MoP it has been nice. I also must admit to having a changed view about the pandaren. After having played in the beta I was pretty sure that I would never level a panda. Well, now I have a pandaren monk...

So, primary WoW, casual GW2.

Any other games currently?

I play a little World of Tanks and Skyrim. I used to play Halo a lot, some CS, and COD. I did play Diablo III when it came out. I am sorry to say that I got bored with at some time during Hell Mode, doing things over and over again. Or was it just too hard? Or did I spend too much time at the AH?

For a period I really liked swtor, and I think that the personal storyline in swtor surpasses most other games. The sith and bounty hunter were quite nice, but the imperial agent story was undoubtedly the most exciting one. But was I really in control of myself all the time? Well, I have the Black Codex now so I can do pretty much what I want.

I might go back to the agent if the story continues and seems interesting.

What was your first computer game ever?

Since I began enjoying computers in 1972 or 1973, my first computer game would have been tic-tac-toe or something like that, suited for a Teletype 33 terminal. Actually, when I started my work career after university, as a geophysicist with Boliden Mineral AB in 1981, graphics terminals were not commonplace. We had a Tektronix 4014 vector terminal on which we could draw maps calculated from geophysical measurements, one page at a time, and with a special “erase” button that made you feel that perhaps it did fry your brains out. Not suited for gaming.

What was your first multiplayer online experience?

My first multiplayer on-line game may have been Quake. I think we (me, and a couple of work mates) played in the company offices in Dublin :)

What was your first MMO?

I guess my first real (massive) multiplayer experience was Wow. My older sons had already played it all the way from the first betas I and now my youngest son urged me to at least do the free trial. Well, I only needed one night to get addicted. I also still have the first b’day greeting I received from my son, in-game, saved in my first character’s bank. As I remember, I got 1G with it, and I was RICH :) That occasion was also my first use of an in-game mailbox.

What is your favorite snack while gaming?

While gaming, I like to have some candy but I think I mostly have salted peanuts. On occasion I like a nice glass of whisky, single malt. I will not decline a pale ale either.

When/How did you join Ginnunga?

I joined Ginnunga during the summer 2010. We were a small number of people from the guild Damnati who joined around the same time. I was actually on vacation and at some time I logged on Wow over the cellular network to find that my guild was no more, and some people had joined Ginnunga. Even if you did not have the need for a priest at that time I took a shot at it and it seems my application did the trick :)

There is a rather interesting story to “Ginnungagap” between the realms of Muspelheim and Nifelheim and the original chaos from which the world was eventually created. A cool guild name that did attract me.

Tell us your most memorable MMO moment?

I’ve had many memorable moments in Wow, most of them from boss kills, but there are also small moments that linger in my mind and pop up when such a question is asked. I remember very well my first mount, all of the guild joining me at the Exodar, chipping in to the elekk, as well as the first time I went through the black portal when most of the guild turned up and escorted me, all slowly walking through the gate. A new world opened, the remnants of Draneor to be explored.

./fa/14697/0/
At the dark portal.

./fa/14698/0/
An early-day’s guild meeting in the Mage Quarters of Stormwind..

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.

That's a hard one since I disclosed so much in my application... Well, as kid I played the violin in a music school. Later at the university I played the flute in the brass band LuHrarne. Tbh, I tried to think of something more exotic, but I couldn’t think of anything.

Attachment: Click to view full-sizeWhat's your character name and how did you come up with it?

Drexa, or more recently, Drexar (most people who know me just calls me Micke, which is short for Michael in Swedish). It has evolved from Dreakon which was the name used on my old Shadowblade in DAoC (It was actually Sigges name, we traded accounts). First use of the nickname Drexa was in Lineage 2 on my first female character since Dreakon didn’t cut it for a female plus I wanted to personalize it a bit, it was then followed by a bunch of females in various games until we started playing WAR and I had to add an “r” at the end since my awesome Dwarf male Ironbreaker had to have a wee bit more manly name.. Ever since then I’ve been going pretty exclusively for male characters again, so Drexar is now the norm, might even be time to update the forum name at some point.

For any old-timers who might still be around, I used to be Wizel Wuzz, the hairiest and manliest Halfling rogue ever, back in Everquest, account was then passed on to the current Wizel/Wizul when I started playing DAoC and I have since then given up any rights to that name.

How old are you?

I am around 25, born 1980.

Where do you live?

Smack in the middle of Sweden, in the ever windy and cold Östersund, a stone throw away from the Midgard Frontier, Jamtland Mountains.

What MMO do you play at the moment?

None. I haven’t played much since SWTOR, part of getting older seems to be getting busier with shitty things like work, and for some reason earning money has a larger priority at times. Waiting for Guild Wars 2 though.

Any other games currently?

Not really. I did play some Diablo 3, but work schedule prevented me from grouping up and it got boring real fast. I drop in and kill some orcs now and then in Space Marine.

What was your first computer game ever?

Tricky question, something on C64 I guess. Earliest game I remember I loved was Moonstone on the Amiga.

What was your first multiplayer online experience?

Hmm, I think it might have been Quake, using dial-up straight to a friend’s phone number or something like that, I remember playing it with keyboard exclusively before realizing that using a mouse had some advantages..

What was your first MMO?

Everquest back in 1999. I actually didn’t own a computer back then, so I was basically living at Marzaks place, playing Final Fantasy 7 during daytime when he was occupying my (his) computer, and using the computer during night when he was sleeping. It was also on his account I made my first character, but it didn’t take too long until I realized I needed my own account, and a bit later my own computer.

What is your favorite snack while gaming?

I don’t really have any favorite snack, anything that is unhealthy and makes you fat is good. If I could I would eat cookies, candy, potato chips, pizza, kebab, hamburgers and fajitas every day, with Coke, Fanta and sometimes ice-cold milk to drink. Sadly I can’t, unless I want to look like Micke the Hutt and get one of those awesome handicap mopeds that all the not so slim people have started to use. Hmm, that would be sweet.

When/How did you join Ginnunga?

I joined up back in late 1999 or early 2000 from what I can remember, Ern has put it at -99 so let’s go with that. I don’t really remember how I got in touch with the idiots leading the guild, but I think it could have been due to spending tons of time with Marzak who knew many of the people from playing MUDs with them, Jhurg/Eyke was one of them (Co-founder) along with Snyggve and possibly Ern, plus a bunch of other people who are now too old to be online heroes. It didn’t take long until we were all good real life friends, hanging at Marzaks and Smeek/Plutts place quite a lot up in the Körfältet Ghetto or spending time at our base of operations, Wedemarks Café, which had unlimited amounts of coffee refills and also allowed smoking inside, those were the times.

Tell us your most memorable MMO moment?

There are so many… First entering Estate of Unrest in Everquest, the feeling of dread and horror, no game will have that effect on me again, I’m sure, even though I still wish it will happen.

./fa/13654/0/

Failing the last boss in my epic quest for my Ragebringer dagger, and then having my day saved by Ernesto who called on fatty Gwarg and all the Forsaken Realm people he could find that late at night, that was a really great experience. (Just as a sidenote, the quest later then bugged out on the final hand in, I gave away my precious collected items to the NPC and instead of getting my Ragebringer I got absolutely nothing, luckily the GM’s back then were awesome and helped me pretty fast to finally get my reward.)

Having to get a GM to kick Gakadaf from the game cause he logged on drunk, died and fell asleep, and corpses decayed in 24 hours online time.. The GM gave me cookies if I remember correctly.

Doublefrosting Paladins down in two hits before the nerfbat hit in DAoC and then overcoming the bitterness of said nerf and still owning the stealth zergs at AMG with Team Hood (Me, Marzak and Hatchet, all shadowblades). Climbing into keeps and delicately perforating peoples arteries with a two-handed sword or axe was also a lot of fun.

Oh, and for some juvenile Swedish humor, these were great finds, to the left we have the NPC Troll named Balle from DAoC, and to the right we have the somewhat nasty Dwarf NPC in Everquest named Horasug.

./fa/13655/0/ ./fa/13656/0/

I could go on and on about Dark Age of Camelot, there are so many great memories from that game and I still firmly believe it’s the best PvP or RvR MMO to date, and I will, sadly, most likely continue to believe that for the rest of my life.. Its also a bit sad to lose contact with a bunch of awesome people, Hatchet, Zlorf, Feo Ellery who kept talking about his “Porros” (His Spanglish made early Meilink sound like a professor in the English language!) just to mention a few.

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.

I do actually laugh, I just don’t push my TeamSpeak button while doing it. Maybe it’s a bit like the whole “If a tree falls in a forest..” type of thing though.

Attachment: Click to view full-sizeWhat's you character name and how did you come up with it?
Everglade. I played Lineage 1 for 5+ years and I ran our clan Shaolin. My character was called Eversholt after small village in Bedfordshire. So when I came to Lineage 2 I wanted a name beginning with Ever, as that's what people called me. So as I was going to play an elf who lives in forest glades, I chose EverGlade.

How old are you?
Despite Ernesto calling me 120. I am only 57.

Where do you live?
I live in North Crawley Buckinghamshire England.

What MMO do you play at the moment?
Hero's of might and magic online. It's a slow strategy game. Rift... well hardly at all now. Probably will quit.

Any other games currently?
Well like most of the world I am waiting for Diablo 3 and HOMM6. Yuris Revenge with an old work colleague.

What was your first computer game ever?
I guess it was space Invaders on a Microtan 66. Like the first ever computer kit, I built myself.

What was your first multiplayer online experience?
It was a game called The Realm. Very cartoony with player killers looking for noobs.

What was your first MMO?
Probably Lineage I

What is your favorite snack while gaming?
Don't really eat anything, but I drink a lot of Coffee.

When/How did you join Ginnunga?
When we came from Lineage I to play Lineage 2, we form a clan called Shaolin. That never went anywhere. So I left and with a few of the Dutchies and joined Ginnunga.
Ernesto informed us he was a dictator and we never looked back

Tell us your most memorable mmo moment?
Well of course it has to be Lineage 2. So many great times with Ginnunga .
The siege at oren, with Ernesto standing with his panther on the bridge, where I slept the entire Spanish clan with 1 mass sleep.

I met Morecombe and Wise in Nottingham.

./fa/12858/0/What's you character name and how did you come up with it?

Any other games currently?
At the moment I am playing Fallout: New Vegas after I modded it quite heavily and Skyrim!

What was your first computer game ever?
Now this is a tough question. It was a good long time ago but I do believe it was Dune 2.

./fa/12818/0/What's you character name and how did you come up with it?
Hi, my character name is GARTAGUEUL. It comes from a funny French play with words. It helped me to find some french friends on my first MMO, Everquest. Later on when I joined Forsaken Realms, I catched Gartblabla as nickname since some guildies had trouble to spell my name (Not because I talk a lot!). Also had an other one but you have to find it :)
I use GART as surname on current MMOs.

How old are you?
I am 31 and I am doing better than ever!

Where do you live?
I live in Dijon, in France. A place that love drinking good burgundy wines and quality food.

What MMO do you play at the moment?
Even if I loved the Rift launch, didn't had more to spend as casual. So no MMO so far :(

Any other games currently?
Coop games mainly. Portal 2, TF2, BF3, a bit of Warhammer DoW II and StarCraft 2

What was your first computer game ever?
Monkey Island !!!

What was your first multiplayer online experience?
I did serial gaming with Command & Conquer + Doom, then Lan with Duke Nukem 3D. Online, was QuakeWorld with TeamFortress1 in 1998!

What was your first MMO?
Everquest in 2000.

What is your favorite snack while gaming?
I try to eat before long gaming night. During play a home made cappuccino and baked cookies :)

When/How did you join Ginnunga?
December 2001. My rebellious french mind gave hard time to the officers. Damn, was good back then.

I first joined "Les Korrigans", a mainly french EU Guild on Everquest. Back then, I was the little one in the guild and all other were able to start "raiding" with other guilds such as Ginnunga. I was always reading the /GU during raids and I started to imagine the others. Plan of Hate and Plan of Fear was such a big deal back then. Lots of legendary tales were going on about the Ginnunga Leader, Merkez... And one day, like a god that banned Adam and Eve from Paradise, Laurent Disbanded Ginnunga. Took me few years to get the why :)

Tell us your most memorable mmo moment?
I do have lots good moments from Everquest Era. 2 in minds:
I remember receiving a SMS for a call to arms at 1pm for VT. We were racing against Team Japan at that time for the Luclin end zone.
2nd : Our first Seru kills. Almost 1 hour of fight because most of our melees didn't had the right weapon. All dps from caster. Necro was pumping all their mana juice to cleric. Magician was pooping Rods for cleric mana regen and those crazy basterd Chain CH the MT (Gwarg if I am right). AWESOME

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.
Sorry, I don't eat Snails or frogs.

Attachment: Click to view full-sizeWhat's you character name and how did you come up with it?
The name I picked for my character is Tildor. I didnt exactly come up with it, I just used a random name generator, selected Elven Names and found this one and liked it.

How old are you?
28 years old atm and Im thinking of staying there for the rest of my life. Just like Drexa.

Where do you live?
In the Netherlands, in a medium sized village called Ridderkerk which in turn is close to Rotterdam.

What MMO do you play at the moment?
A fascinating one called "Real Life". It involves alot of grinding but can be quite fun, the graphics are awesome too. Simply put, I dont have time for an MMO at this point in my life. Most probably I will start one again when im in a relationship and fail at both.

Any other games currently?
Die2nite, one of the best browsergames ever! Kinda involved in The Sims Medieval now, waiting for Darkspore and Diablo III.

What was your first computer game ever?
My first computer game ever was on the Atari 2600 which I played on my own black and white tv. Space invaders.

What was your first multiplayer online experience?
It was in 1999/2000, Cable internet was just coming into town and we got one of the first connections. Then I discovered Unreal Tournament, a First Person Shooter and I was hooked. Goodbye school results.
The real sad part is, I never got really good at it, despite playing like 28 hours a day.

What was your first MMO?
Actually, my first MMO I played was Asherons Call. Joost and I started this without knowing it was a MMO. We didnt have any clue what to do, so when we entered the game we encountered a "very friendly" high level player.
He told us that we needed to mine and cut wood in this game and that he give us gear.
So after a few hours of mining and chopping and giving ALL our resources to this "friendly player" we thought this game sucked and just quit.

What is your favorite snack while gaming?
It used to be nicotine, but i quit since a few months. So nowadays its either white grapes or a very healthy bag of bugles (nacho cheese crisps) and cheese spread.

When/How did you join Ginnunga?
This was around 2002, a group of friends and I decided to start playing an MMO (this time I knew what it was) named Lineage II. It was the most beautifull game experience to this date. A vast world, filled with players I could chat with, stunning graphics. I was sold.
So together with Cogency, Joost, Tlith and THC we were beasting it up in the newbie area Talking Island. There we met this handsome knight named Ernesto, who was looking for a sword. Experts as we were, we decided to show this lad the way to the sword.
It was a disaster!
This person pulled entire rooms filled with mobs just for his own selfish pleasure. We died so much it set Tlith in eternal rage, sent Joost crying and made THC quit.
Needles to say we never parted again and decided to join his clan, Ginnunga.

Tell us your most memorable mmo moment?
It must have been told a thousand times and I dont know if someone before me told the story, but here it is.
This also happened in Lineage II. We were a small clan and did not have alot of allies.
We had one meaningless castle and The Zerg decided it didnt belong to us. So the entire server signed up against us for the Siege and we had little allies at the moment.
It was 36 clans in the offense against a meagre 12 clans in defense.
I remember everyone assembling before the siege, Ernesto standing on the bridge in front of the castle shouting there would be noone that could pass this bridge.
Siege time began. A huge blob op people moved from the town to the castle. The server trembled under the huge strain.
By the time the blob arrived at our castle I had like 10 frames per second.
We decided to move out the castle and rush the camps that were set up by the offense.
The minute we stepped outside, everything went ballistic. It became a slideshow where i saw Cogency already standing at the camps, dropping people like flies, getting chainhealed by every healer in our alliance.
Ernesto still shouting like a madman on the bridge that "none shall pass" and the raidleaders on teamspeak shouting assist, assist, assist every second.
After about two minutes the fog cleared, frames were getting better again and we had slain about 1000 people. We did it, we had beaten the zerg and got to keep our castle.
We left Ernesto on the bridge and started celebrating.

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.
Despite common belief, I am actually not gay.
