About the MMO guild Ginnunga

- Who we are
Ginnunga is an online gaming guild based in Europe which was formed in 1999 with focus on MMOs. We have a basic set of rules and morals that guides our behaviour, regardless of which game we play and our motto has always been that we should have fun together. This does however not mean that we are just a family guild. We play to win - not always to be the best, but we are quite aware of quality, not just in personality and behaviour, but also in game excellence. We are currently playing Guild Wars 2 on Blackgate and WoW on Nordrassil

Heroes of Newerth

Heroes of Newerth

In the 1.0.5 patch, S2 Games introduced a new feature for Heroes of Newerth called Report a player.

General
- Report a player added
* Upper left on the System Bar, ! symbol
* Fill out the form to report another player for inappropriate actions
* False reporters will be punished

One of the major drawbacks with Heroes of Newerth has always been it's community and what we old men and women over here refer to as "lollerkids" run rampant. The only way previously to deal with this has been to add them to your banlist and that way those players cannot join games that you create.

The Report a player function has 8 categories of Abuse:
  • Advertising
Spamming of advertising a service in a game or public channel

  • Bad Nickname
Racially offensive, sexually explicit or profane nicknames may be reported and recommended for a nickname change.

  • Exploiting a Bug
Deliberate and milicious exploitation of bugs to gain an advantange over the enemy team or grief allies. Some examples follow:
    • Instant-kill bugs
    • Server exploits
    • Intentionally causing the game to crash
    • Gold manipulation

  • Impersonating S2Games
Impersonation of S2Games employees or volunteer personnel to intimidate or otherwise gain an advantange over other players.

  • Feeding/Boosting
Manipulation of stats, rating or game outcome via multi-accounting or plants.

  • Illegal Content
Sharing anything that violates US Law. Examples include:
    • Bomb making
    • Child pornography.
    • Illegal drug information.

  • General Abuse
General in-game abuse of heroes, items or abilities. Examples include:
    • Intentional use of items or abilities to frief allies (ie, Nymphora's teleport)
    • Illogical refusal to participate in a match
    • Intentional disruption of a match (ie, calling out allied positions)

  • Verbal Abuse
Excessive in-game verbal harassment of another player with the intent to demean or otherwise negatively affect another player. Examples include:
    • Use of racist terms
    • Political or religious intolerance
    • Sexual harassment of gender or identity
    • Excessive profanity

It looks good to me, it's a feature that has been surely needed to clean up the language and attitude of the game. Do not missunderstand me, I am not the one to run to dad and tell, but there has to be some major adjustments to the tone in the game community to ensure the games success both commercially and as an e-sport. Seeing top-end teams call people "jews" on a live broadcasted tournament leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and the worst part so far is that noone has actively spoken out about it and naturally those that did, were abused.

The only thing I seem to miss is the ability to report a player without a matchID - For example if any of the above takes place in the game lobby, or the ability to report a few of those not-so-clever nicknames on your banlist.

I think it will take a while before we see any effects from this system, but I profoundly hope that we can clean up the game a little bit and it can be a better representative for us computer nerds and e-sports as a whole.

Our legendary member of Awesomness Mario "Kolapz" Madjer recaps the past week of competitive HoN play:

In what proved to be another exciting week for the Heroes of Newerth eSport scene, Team Loaded [LOAD] won The 500$ ECO-league Kickoff Tournament with a 2-0 victory over Clan MILK International [MILK].

The German KD Gaming [KDe] came on top of their competition winning the NEVA - HON III Qualifying tournament, joining Team Loaded [LOAD] and You Cutie [uqt] in the 5000$ Invitational, while another European team, FnaticMSI [MSI] took home the bragging rights by winning the first ever Honcast.com Qualifying Tournament and thereby cementing their spot in the 1000$ Invitational.

The 300$ vVv Gaming Invitational Tournament, the 300$ CyberGamer Tournament and the 500$ Team Warfare League Kick-Off Tournament are all still ongoing, but steadily approaching their final stages.
