About the MMO guild Ginnunga

- Who we are
Ginnunga is an online gaming guild based in Europe which was formed in 1999 with focus on MMOs. We have a basic set of rules and morals that guides our behaviour, regardless of which game we play and our motto has always been that we should have fun together. This does however not mean that we are just a family guild. We play to win - not always to be the best, but we are quite aware of quality, not just in personality and behaviour, but also in game excellence. We are currently playing Guild Wars 2 on Blackgate and WoW on Nordrassil

Morrisey might think "Everyday is like sunday", so thank god he's is only Jesus reincarnated as a musician and not a raider in Ginnunga because we wouldn't get anything done. This past week our members decided to heed the Sabbath instead of raiding, but despite that, only using two raiddays, we opened a can of whoopass on Herald and for the first time felt Alsbeth up!

./fa/12366/0/
Tumble put on his prettiest Robin Hood-costume to impress Alsbeth.

We only had time to dip our toes in the encounter but are expecting a swift departure down the river for the Queen of trash in coming raids.

The preparations for Hammerknell is otherwise well underway and besides stacking up resists several members have been spotted bathing in the Sanctum fountains to acclimatize themselves. On that note we've been asked by GM's to remind everyone that personal swim toys are STRICTLY prohibited in public fountains.

./fa/12367/0/
Calling the toy Cogency didn't help, Ernesto was promptly sent out of the fountain.

In other news, the coming weekend it's time for Ginnungas yearly RL-gathering! This year it's held in the land of broken dreams and Puff the magic dragon, The Netherlands. All of us who aren't going send our best wishes and hope the dutchies takes care of everyone!

Til next week, veilig zijn!

With the sweet summer sweat dripping from our foreheads Ginnunga concludes another week on Whitefall. In complete opposite of what’s expected during the summer our activity lately has been steadily increasing up to the point where our members will soon be online 24/7. PvP-dailys, Raid Rifts, Raids, Epic Quests and infuriating dungeon crawls, where Ernesto proves he’s less of a tank then a shy sheep, is just some of the things keeping us busy.

./fa/12345/0/
”Baaaaa” says the gimp.

But, alas, we also have our share of bad seeds. We’ve had quite some trouble with slack in raids and for the longest time haven’t been able to weed out the troublemakers. Finally this week, with some blooming detective work, we managed to get to the root of the matter. This individual will no longer stand idly by, soil-ing our efforts!
(Above puns absolutely intended)

./fa/12346/0/
No more beating around the bush for you!

In more relevant news we had a strong raidweek that saw our quickest GSB-clear to date. Just below 2h after we entered the mossinfected den Lord Greenscale lay dead before us, giving Drexa a new orange dagger which of course didn’t help his amazing skills in pulling aggro.
Onwards to River of Trash where we’ve spent most of our time getting reacquainted with Herald Gaurath, bashing bones and taking names.

./fa/12347/0/
This is a completely different "Bones", but skeletal dragons are so 1998.

Recruitment

Ginnunga has filled it’s roster in preparation for the next raidinstance, Hammerknell Fortress. We thank everyone who’s been applying and if you didn’t get in we wish you the best of luck elsewhere.
IF you happen to be an exceptionally skilled/geared/social (preferably all) applicant there might still be room, but it’s going to take some serious sucking up.

With that we welcome our newest trials Ayni, Chauncy and Vorpx! May your stay with us be as fun as a night in Argees pants. Or. Well. A bit more fun than that.

Until next week flower lovers, peace out.

Attachment: Click to view full-sizeWhat's you character name and how did you come up with it?
The name I picked for my character is Tildor. I didnt exactly come up with it, I just used a random name generator, selected Elven Names and found this one and liked it.

How old are you?
28 years old atm and Im thinking of staying there for the rest of my life. Just like Drexa.

Where do you live?
In the Netherlands, in a medium sized village called Ridderkerk which in turn is close to Rotterdam.

What MMO do you play at the moment?
A fascinating one called "Real Life". It involves alot of grinding but can be quite fun, the graphics are awesome too. Simply put, I dont have time for an MMO at this point in my life. Most probably I will start one again when im in a relationship and fail at both.

Any other games currently?
Die2nite, one of the best browsergames ever! Kinda involved in The Sims Medieval now, waiting for Darkspore and Diablo III.

What was your first computer game ever?
My first computer game ever was on the Atari 2600 which I played on my own black and white tv. Space invaders.

What was your first multiplayer online experience?
It was in 1999/2000, Cable internet was just coming into town and we got one of the first connections. Then I discovered Unreal Tournament, a First Person Shooter and I was hooked. Goodbye school results.
The real sad part is, I never got really good at it, despite playing like 28 hours a day.

What was your first MMO?
Actually, my first MMO I played was Asherons Call. Joost and I started this without knowing it was a MMO. We didnt have any clue what to do, so when we entered the game we encountered a "very friendly" high level player.
He told us that we needed to mine and cut wood in this game and that he give us gear.
So after a few hours of mining and chopping and giving ALL our resources to this "friendly player" we thought this game sucked and just quit.

What is your favorite snack while gaming?
It used to be nicotine, but i quit since a few months. So nowadays its either white grapes or a very healthy bag of bugles (nacho cheese crisps) and cheese spread.

When/How did you join Ginnunga?
This was around 2002, a group of friends and I decided to start playing an MMO (this time I knew what it was) named Lineage II. It was the most beautifull game experience to this date. A vast world, filled with players I could chat with, stunning graphics. I was sold.
So together with Cogency, Joost, Tlith and THC we were beasting it up in the newbie area Talking Island. There we met this handsome knight named Ernesto, who was looking for a sword. Experts as we were, we decided to show this lad the way to the sword.
It was a disaster!
This person pulled entire rooms filled with mobs just for his own selfish pleasure. We died so much it set Tlith in eternal rage, sent Joost crying and made THC quit.
Needles to say we never parted again and decided to join his clan, Ginnunga.

Tell us your most memorable mmo moment?
It must have been told a thousand times and I dont know if someone before me told the story, but here it is.
This also happened in Lineage II. We were a small clan and did not have alot of allies.
We had one meaningless castle and The Zerg decided it didnt belong to us. So the entire server signed up against us for the Siege and we had little allies at the moment.
It was 36 clans in the offense against a meagre 12 clans in defense.
I remember everyone assembling before the siege, Ernesto standing on the bridge in front of the castle shouting there would be noone that could pass this bridge.
Siege time began. A huge blob op people moved from the town to the castle. The server trembled under the huge strain.
By the time the blob arrived at our castle I had like 10 frames per second.
We decided to move out the castle and rush the camps that were set up by the offense.
The minute we stepped outside, everything went ballistic. It became a slideshow where i saw Cogency already standing at the camps, dropping people like flies, getting chainhealed by every healer in our alliance.
Ernesto still shouting like a madman on the bridge that "none shall pass" and the raidleaders on teamspeak shouting assist, assist, assist every second.
After about two minutes the fog cleared, frames were getting better again and we had slain about 1000 people. We did it, we had beaten the zerg and got to keep our castle.
We left Ernesto on the bridge and started celebrating.

Tell us something nobody in the guild knows about you.
Despite common belief, I am actually not gay.

"I feel it in my fingers,
i feel it in my toes.
Love is all around me,
and so the feeling grows"

Sadly the past week in Rift for Ginnunga has contained less of the awesome scottish 80's band and more of other wet activities. In preparation for Hammerknell our ever so wise leadership on Whitefall has proclaimed it necessary for all members to stock up on water resist which means water rifts. Lots and lots of water rifts. And oh, did i mention water rifts?

./fa/12363/0/
Ernesto did not heed the warning about standing in yellow snow...

./fa/12364/0/
It's like a water slide, but instead of water we get poo!

We've also been strictly instructed to get the event trinket which lets you breath water. Everyone has done their best, except some who choose to invest their hard earned seals in retarded hats instead of trinkets...

Besides the seemingly endless amount of waterfun we did a smooth GSB-clear where Lord Greenscale was promptly oneshotted. This took our members by such surprise that NEITHER that had the epic quest managed to fondle him with their sword. Score one for awesome quest mechanics!
Summer is taking tad of a toll on our MMO gaming but we're clearing what we can each week, gearing up to headbutt Alsbeth whenever we get the chance. Whitefalls oldest does not let summer, sun or children screaming for icecream get in the way of our Rift guild progress!

Recruitment

We're still looking to fill up our roster with a handful new members that can't wait to tear into Rifts raid content. Aside from the obvious (T2-gear or better and what not) we recommend you have ample resistance to Swedish songs being sung on teamspeak while raiding. Don't say we didn't warn you.

If you're interested please read our official recruitment post where you will find all the info you could ever ask for!
In the unlikely event that you do have questions feel free to contact Ernesto, Kunasha, Fastas or Pinchy ingame.

As for applications: Write properly. Write a lot. Spell-check. Trigger our interest - We want good and friendly people that will add to our community, not just the game!

Til next week, stay wet.

Raiding
Even though summer has hit the raids in Rift keep on happening, and with them some progress. We've been a tad laid back on new encounters for a while but we managed to squeeze in a few hours of tries after which we suckerpunched Plutonus and spit in Alsbeths general direction.

Getting this many people on the pedestal took most of the raid.

One more boss to go and we'll put River of Tras... Souls on farmstatus.

GSB: 5/5 RoS: 3/4 GP: 4/4

And finally a warm welcome our newest trials Korpayne and Selenus, make us proud.

Chocolate, peanuts and the combination of the above.

We have come across a new MMO, ArcheAge Online, its currently still in developement and ofcourse its way to early to tell if this is the "new" best game ever. But from what we've seen, this has potential to be a great game.

It is currently in closed beta (without NDA) in Korea, supposed to release in November this year in Korea, and in Q1 in the west (but there is no publisher yet). They don't claim to "westernize" the game, it already seems to be less asian than Aion or TERA. It's using CryEngine 3. A few of the developers were involved in L2.

The game is supposed to have a PvE part comparable to WoW and PvP part comparable to L2, but what sets it apart from other MMOs are the sandbox features.

  • Classes: 4 Archetypes OR custom like in UO. You have 10 skillsets to choose from and can have 3 active at any given time.
  • The world is seamless and consists of 3 massive continents, one of them is supposed to allow players to build and siege their own castles, the other two are held by NPC factions. There are ships but no teleport.
  • Housing: Extensive housing system lets players plant down houses of different sizes in any free spot in the world similar to UO, and expand them with crafting items or NPCs. You will be able to build villages and one of the videos shows players building a shipyard and ships.
  • Labor Points: These are used in crafting or other activities and accumulate over time even while offline.
  • Factions: In addition to NPC factions, players can create their own. Attacking a member of your own faction on PvP servers will flag you as a criminal (or cause you to go to trial, unclear), you can go to jail in this game.
  • There is mounted combat - your mount can level up and gain new abilities - as well as naval battle which looks similar to Darkfall.

Late post on this but nonetheless excellent work on Cho'Gall, we ended up getting a ton of top rankings on World of logs from this kill but I guess there aren't too many people doing 10 man heroic at a serious level.

Ah yes did I mention 10 man? Not to spoil the moment but the guild is dealing with the worst roster situation we've had in some time, it's good that we can still progress despite these problems but they do put a shadow over things.

Here's the url:
kill video from Ulti's pov.

EverQuest We played EverQuest on the Mithaniel Marr server.
DAoC We played DAoC on the Kay server.
Lineage II We played Lineage II on the Bartz server.
Bloodhoof Bloodhoof was our PvE alternative to Stormreaver.
Aion We played Aion on Perento.
Warhammer We played on Karak-Hirn but later forced to move to Karak-Norn
Nordrassil Nordrassil is our more casual alternative to Stormreaver
Stormreaver High attendance raiding alternative to casual Nordrassil.
Rift Rift was mostly PvE focused due to the design of the game.
